Multi-awarded actor and host Dingdong Dantes opened up about the turning point that pushed him to take his showbiz career more seriously, revealing that financial struggles at home gave his work a deeper purpose.

He shared the story during an interview with Karmina Constantino on the YouTube channel KC After Hours.

During the conversation, Constantino asked him to identify the moment when his work shifted from being purely enjoyable to something more meaningful.

Reflecting on his early years in the industry, Dantes admitted that he initially treated showbiz as something fun.

"I think that was when I realized that there is a greater reason why I was put there in the first place," he said.

He explained that the realization came as he witnessed his parents’ difficulty in supporting him and his four siblings’ education.

"But then dumating kasi 'yung point na na-feel ko growing up that it wasn't easy to raise kids and then send them to school—nice schools," he recalled.

The actor shared that there came a time when his father began considering whether to transfer him to another school due to financial concerns. This prompted him to take initiative and help shoulder his expenses.

"So, I just took the initiative and said I'll try," Dantes said.

He added that he decided to help pay for his own tuition to ease the burden on his parents.

"So that was the point na sineryoso ko siya, kasi may mas malalim na akong dahilan," he explained.

Dantes said his perspective gradually changed, leading him to develop a deeper appreciation for his craft.

"When I changed that framing and that mindset, doon din nagbago," he noted.

He eventually pursued further learning, sought mentorship from directors, and invested more effort into improving his skills, marking a significant evolution in his long-running career.

Dingdong Dantes is a 45-year-old Filipino actor and director often referred to as the "Kapuso Primetime King" because of his long-standing presence on GMA Network. He is the eldest of five siblings and is part of a well-known celebrity couple with his wife, Marian Rivera. Dantes continues to stay active in the entertainment industry, leading the action-drama The Master Cutter on Netflix and GMA while also serving as a Lieutenant Commander in the Philippine Navy Reserve.
