Joy emphasized that being gay is never shameful.
“Wala namang problema magbakla-baklaan dahil wala namang nakakahiya sa pagiging bakla. If anything being gay is being interesting kaya nga yun ang ginagawa niyong persona,” she said.
The beauty queen added that the issue lies with individuals who mimic the community for content but remain silent when advocacy and support are needed.
She urged creators to actively participate in q*eer struggles, explaining that humor and mannerisms developed as survival tools.
“Kung kaya niyong gayahin ang mga bakla, dapat kaya niyo rin tahakin ang masukal na daan at maranasan ang masalimuot na mundo para lang sa kanilang pagtanggap,” Joy said.
The discussion gained traction after influencer duo Macoy Dubs and Baus Rufo called out straight creators in their podcast “Mga Nanay Niyong Galit.” Baus noted:
“You have to earn it naman. We're not saying we're not gonna give it to you, pero allyship muna, beh, bago clout.”
Both stressed that passing the SOGIE Equality Bill should take priority over queerbaiting.
Joy’s statement has ignited broader dialogue on responsibility and advocacy in online spaces. She concluded:
“Makibaka kayo para sa kanila. Magsalita kayo para sa kanila. Higit sa lahat, mahalin niyo rin sila.”
