Veteran actress and Batangas Governor Vilma Santos said returning to the big screen will have to wait as she focuses on fulfilling her responsibilities to her constituents.

Speaking during the special screening of the film Ekstra in Manila City on Sunday, Santos revealed that making another movie is no longer among her top priorities while she continues her term as governor, ABS-CBN News reported.
“Yung sinabi ko sana in three years pinagkatiwalaan ako ng Batangeño—sana payagan ako gumawa kahit isa. Kaya lang at this point in time ang dami natin challenges. Medyo second o third priority na lang,” she said.
Santos explained that the demands of public service require her full attention, particularly as the province faces various challenges.

“The challenges we are facing now, I am the mother of Batangas, yun muna priority ko. Kailangan magabayan pangangailangan nila. yung ang first priority ko,” she said.
Despite putting acting on hold for now, the award-winning actress did not completely close the door on future film projects. Santos shared that she remains open to doing another independent film if a suitable script becomes available.
“Nag-usap kami ni Direk Jeff, may hinahanap siya na script for me. Just in case meron ulit, I do not mind doing an indie film. Sa haba ng career ko, isang indie lang nagawa ko,” she said.
The screening of Ekstra was organized by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the Film Development Council of the Philippines as part of the celebration of Women’s Month.
During the talkback session after the screening, Santos also addressed the viral lewd remarks made by Quezon City Representative Bong Suntay about actress Anne Curtis. She emphasized that women deserve respect and should not be belittled.
“We have been talking about women empowerment—you should treat women with respect,” she said.
Santos also expressed disagreement with those who tried to justify the remarks based on how women dress, stressing that respect should always come first.
Vilma Santos-Recto is an iconic Filipina actress and public servant currently serving her fourth term as Governor of Batangas after a historic victory in May 2025. Known as the “Star for All Seasons,” she remains a major force in Philippine cinema, recently winning her 10th Best Actress honor at the PMPC Star Awards for Movies in December 2025 for the film Uninvited. As of March 2026, she has paused film projects to focus on the “HEARTS” program for Batangueños.
