Alex Castro, actor and current vice governor of Bulacan, defended women’s right to dress freely, speaking out on Monday amid ongoing discussions about objectifying women online.

“Walang restrictions sa pananamit [si Sunshine],” Castro told ABS-CBN News.
He elaborated, “Ang mga babae ay dapat irespeto at igalang — lalung-lalo na naming mga leader. Ang may kasalanan ay ‘yung taong tumitingin — kung may halong pangnanasa. Hindi na kasalanan ng babae ‘yun.”
Referencing his wife, a member of the Sexbomb Girls, Castro highlighted that performers’ costumes are part of the show.

“Hindi ako nalalaswaan sa mga suot nila. Concert ‘yun, eh. Costume nila ‘yun. ‘Yung tumitingin [na may malisya] ang mali,” he said.

Castro has gained admiration online for publicly supporting his wife.
“‘Yung ginagawa ko, dapat naman talagang ginagawa ng mga lalaki. Ganoon dapat ang ginagawa ng mga lalaki — suportahan ang mga asawa,” he explained.
He praised Sunshine’s dedication, saying:
“Nakita ko ‘yung saya sa asawa ko nung nag-concert. Maraming pinagdaanan ‘yung asawa ko. Nag-sacrifice siya katulad ng mga pangkaraniwang babae na naging nanay na iniwanan ang career para sa pamilya.”
He also spoke about the body shaming Sunshine experienced.
“Naranasan n’yang ma-bash dahil [mataba] nga siya nung round one. Sabi ko, mas maganda na ‘yung kung anong normal mo at huwag i-pressure ang sarili. Huwag i-pressure ang sarili para lang i-impress ‘yung mga tao,” Castro said.
“Ganyan naman talaga ang nanay. Ganyan naman talaga ang babae. ‘Yan ‘yung normal na babae na [nagbabago ang weight]. Ang pinaka-important ay nariyan pa rin ang talent niya. Magaling pa rin. Ginagawa niya ‘yung mahal n’yang gawin. Sobrang supportive ako. Tumatayo ako. Pumapalakpak ako.”
When asked about politics, Castro mentioned a possible run for governor.
“Nung pumasok ako sa politics — 23 years ago — wala akong kamag-anak sa politics. Nagsimula lang akong SK chairman ng isang maliit na barangay. Ngayon, pinakabatang vice governor. Unfair sa mga kababayan na pag-usapan ang governorship sa panahon ngayon na marami tayong pinagdadaanan.”
He added, “I think it’s unfair na sasagutin ko kung oo or hindi. Sa akin lang, kung anong ibigay ni Lord, I’m ready. Ito talaga ‘yung ibinigay ni Lord na mission ko. Hindi ko naman mararating ito kung hindi ako ginabayan ng mga tamang tao.”
