According to Miranda, the family stayed overnight at B Hotel Alabang because Migs’ competition was scheduled early the following day and was being held at another school.

Before going to bed, Miranda’s wife, Neri Naig, checked their son’s belongings to make sure everything was ready for the event. During the check, she realized that Migs had not brought a ballpen.

Miranda explained that the pencil case had been left inside Migs’ school bag when they transferred to another car earlier. Since the bag was not needed for the competition, they did not notice that the pens were still inside it.

Fortunately, a pen was available in the hotel room, which eased the immediate concern. Migs then tried to reassure his mother about the situation.

"Relax, Mom. You're always like that," Migs said, referring to how she tends to worry about small details.

The remark reportedly upset Naig, who eventually went to sleep after the brief exchange. Miranda recalled that both mother and son ended the evening with a bit of frustration.

Before going to sleep, Miranda wrote a note for Migs. The following morning, he asked his son to read it during breakfast.
