Melai Cantiveros recently entertained her followers after sharing a humorous throwback from her childhood cheerleading days.

On Instagram, the Kapamilya star posted an old photo taken 26 years ago when she joined a cheerleading competition at just 11 years old, the same age as her daughter Mela today.

“26 years ago… 11 yrs old ako, same edad ni Mela ngayon. At itong music din na ‘to ang tugtog sa cheerdance competition noon. 2nd Runner Up kami sa competition kasi dalawa lang din na grupo ang sumali. Narealize ko lang, akala ko noong time na ‘yon ang ganda-ganda ko, pero ngayun na nakita ko, mukha pala akong kulangot o ninuno? Maling-mali na gandang-ganda ako sa sarili ko noon. Mama ko naman parang si Missy Elliot, si Papa ko naman kung ako mukhang ninuno, siya mukhang anino. Naalala ko, proud na proud sila sa akin noon. Trivia: Ito pa, yung bangka namin sa Indonesia hindi pa nahuli.”

Along with the nostalgic snapshot, she included a candid caption filled with her signature humor.

In her post, the TV host recalled that their group finished as second runner-up in the competition. She jokingly pointed out that only two teams actually joined, which made the memory even funnier in hindsight.

The celebrity then shared what truly made her laugh while revisiting the photo. She admitted that back then, she believed she looked very beautiful during the performance. However, upon seeing the picture again as an adult, she playfully compared her younger look to something far from glamorous.

Aside from poking fun at her childhood appearance, the actress also mentioned her parents in the post. She compared her mother to Missy Elliott and jokingly described her father as looking like a shadow.

The host even included a small trivia note, revealing that the photo was taken before their family’s boat was once apprehended in Indonesia, giving longtime followers another glimpse into her colorful life stories.
