BINI is a Filipina girl group formed under ABS-CBN’s Star Hunt Academy. The eight-member ensemble—Aiah, Colet, Maloi, Gwen, Stacey, Mikha, Jhoanna, and Sheena—first introduced themselves to the public in November 2020 with their pre-debut single “Da Coconut Nut,” marking the start of their rise in the P-pop scene.
Around a month ago, group leader Jhoanna Robles spoke about the “maarte” label that resurfaced online following their appearance on People vs. Food. In an interview with Ogie Diaz, she acknowledged that they can appear “maarte” at times but clarified that speaking English abroad was meant as a sign of respect to the people they interacted with. Jhoanna also laughed at how some netizens joined the criticism without watching the full context of the video. She further reflected that while their reactions were sincere, they learned to be more mindful and composed when representing the Philippines overseas.
BINI previously released their photo journal Journey Through the BINIverse, a collection that documents their growth, challenges, and shared experiences throughout their trainee days and debut years. In the book, members shared symbolic “song titles” that capture their personal journeys and the strong bond they’ve built as a group.
The girls are also gearing up for BINIfied, their first-ever year-end concert happening at the Philippine Arena on November 29. Despite admitting that harsh comments can sometimes weigh on them, the members emphasized that they use criticisms as fuel—channeling negativity into motivation and turning challenges into strength as they continue reaching new milestones.
