The 36-year-old, whose year has been packed with acting commitments and business ventures, revealed his motivation and the immense challenge of taking on this new behind-the-scenes role during a recent press conference in Makati City.
More than just lending his star power, Gerald 's involvement stems from a deep conviction about the film’s narrative.
"Ba’t ko naisip? Kasi naniniwala ako sa proyekto," Gerald shared. " Ang pinaka-importante sa akin is yung storya. You can have a beautiful cast like this but kung hindi maganda yung story mo o hindi malinaw, hindi talaga mag-wo-work. So yan yung number one ko na priority para sa akin."
Beyond the strength of the script, Gerald was particularly drawn to the film's timing and theme. A self-proclaimed lover of the holiday season, he pointed out a gap in the MMFF lineup that Rekonek is uniquely filling.
"And ang favorite season ko is the Christmas season. Matagal na tayong walang Christmas movie sa MMFF and I think this year, tayo lang, Rekonek lang ang nag-iisang Christmas movie," he noted. " So alam ko yung mga Pinoy, na-mi-miss din nila yung Christmas feels yung mapapanuod nila. Rekonek is the only Christmas movie. But then again, ginagamit ko rin siya as a learning experience. Kung ano matutunan ko para sa mga susunod na proyekto na gusto ko i-produce."

The movie, directed by Jade Castro, tackles a highly relevant, timely, and slightly terrifying scenario: what would happen if the entire world lost internet access ten days before Christmas?
This high-concept premise explores the dynamics of human connection when the crutch of constant digital access is suddenly removed.
Gerald admitted that balancing the demands of acting with the immense responsibilities of production—partnering his company, The Th3rd Floor Studios, with Reality MM Studios—has been a "stressful" but ultimately "great" experience.
"This is my first venture as a producer so more than just acting, it was an amazing learning experience para sa akin," Gerald said. His duties went far beyond just hitting his marks; he was immersed in the logistics, from managing the cast schedules to tackling the financial hurdles and the complexity of the shoot itself.
"Madaming challenges. Finance, schedule ng artista, yung shoot mismo, MMFF, kung makakapasok kami," he recalled. "I think out of 50 entries, walo lang a ng pipiliin. We were announced top four. So dun pa lang, malaking press na yan and malaking opportunity. So nung na-announce kami, sabi namin, ‘Tara! 100% ituloy na natin ito." Once accepted, the team committed "100 percent" to proceeding.

In Rekonek, Gerald’s storyline focuses on one of the many perspectives, where he and his co-star, Charlie Dizon, play a couple whose relationship is already on the verge of collapse before the internet outage forces them to confront each other directly.
For an actor who has spent two decades in the industry, producing is a natural evolution. "I'm always up for a challenge," Gerald asserted. "20 years na ako sa industriya. I’m always looking for something new."
His foray into producing demonstrates a desire to not only headline films but to shape the stories audiences see, ensuring they are both commercially viable and emotionally resonant, particularly during the Filipino Christmas season.
Gerald Anderson is a widely recognized Filipino personality, primarily known for his work as an actor, model, and basketball enthusiast. Recently, Gerald was asked about his plans to seek a new romantic partner following his separation from Julia Barretto. The actor firmly replied in the negative, explaining that his current priority is to dedicate his efforts to his career and self-improvement. He elaborated that romantic connections often arise organically, leading him to prioritize his professional commitments for the immediate future. Gerald's dating history includes several high-profile relationships with actresses such as Kim Chiu, Maja Salvador, Bea Alonzo, and most recently, Julia Barretto.
He also previously discussed his personal perspective on relationships, asserting that certain people in one's life are truly worth re-establishing a connection with. The actor disclosed that this very concept—of fragile relationships and the possibility of reconciliation—forms the central premise of his upcoming film project. His comments highlight that the essential takeaway message of his film is about "reconnecting with people" after a crucial bond has been severed.
