Bela Padilla, a Kapamilya star, recently took to Instagram to clear the air regarding some of the statements she made during her interview with award-winning journalist Karen Davila. The interview, which was uploaded on YouTube, quickly went viral amongst netizens, sparking discussions online over Bela's comments about Filipino society and global awareness.

According to Bela, her remarks were being dissected and, in some cases, even misconstrued.

To set the record straight, she decided to address the issue directly on her Instagram stories. Alongside her post, Bela shared a screenshot of her clarification, beginning with a strong opening: "I'm not calling out the general public here. I specifically said 'makes US stupid' because I'm referring to people with the same resources that Ms. Karen and I have access to. I said 'WE'RE so self-centered here' so I mean people who have the means to study, the means to listen to global news, the means to bridge gaps between developed countries and us like our leaders for example."

She emphasized that her comments were never aimed at ordinary Filipinos who work hard every day to survive. "I would never call a person who works for a daily wage and who works for survival 'stupid.' But a person who lives comfortably but does nothing? Yes. The point wasn't to demoralize, it was to call out," she explained, saying her point was not even to demoralize as well.

Bela also expanded her thoughts, saying that Filipinos are the biggest consumers of online media, "We are one of the biggest consumers of online content and yet we don't consume content that's enriching. The people who have buying power and the brands/advertisers here still patronize content creators that put out rubbish content cause they have a lot of followers. So it's a cycle."
