In a candid interview on "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda," Jaya recounted a series of hardships, including a devastating house fire and her husband's stroke, that tested their faith and brought them closer together.
Jaya shared that their move to the U.S. was made without fully considering the consequences, but as she puts it, "God had other plans."
While her career was thriving with numerous work opportunities during the pandemic, her family was about to face a difficult trial.
The most challenging event was a house fire that broke out in 2022 on her daughter Sabria's 16th birthday.
Jaya had just returned from a concert for American singer Stevie B. and was celebrating with her family. After singing "Happy Birthday," she noticed smoke coming from a vent in the floor.
She immediately asked her son, Gavin, to check the source. He confirmed their fears—the house was on fire.
For Jaya, the fire was more than just a tragic accident; it was a profound test of faith. She explained that the incident strengthened not only her family but also their community in Washington State, which she described as one of the country's most "unchurched" states.
The shared ordeal brought their neighbors together and solidified their faith in a way that she believes nothing else could.
"That's what really bonded us," she said, "as if nothing could ever shake our faith and our love for each other."
Amidst the fire's aftermath, the family faced yet another crisis when Jaya's husband suffered a stroke.
Fortunately, he was able to recover within a few days, but the series of events underscored the incredible resilience of her family.
Despite the setbacks, Jaya and her family found a new home in August 2022, a sign of their perseverance and hope.
Jaya's story serves as a powerful reminder that behind the glitz and glamour of show business, celebrities face personal struggles just like everyone else.
Her candid account of faith, family, and resilience in the face of adversity resonates with many, proving that true strength is found in overcoming life's most difficult trials.
