Former Kapamilya actress Liza Soberano backed Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto’s statement about the protest held at St. Gerrard Construction, owned by the Discaya family.

The group Kalikasan threw stones at the company’s gate to symbolize the heavy suffering of flood victims.

They blamed the failed flood control projects linked to the firm.

In a Facebook post, Mayor Vico reminded the public not to use violence, even if their anger is understandable.

He said he worries about security guards, workers, and even the protesters themselves, who might get hurt if violence breaks out.

Liza agreed with this point through her X post. She said she believes there is a better way to express concerns without causing harm to ordinary workers who are only trying to earn a living for their families.

Her post, however, drew mixed reactions online. Some netizens accused her of changing her values and being influenced by her partner, Jeffrey Oh.

Others argued that stealing people’s money is also a form of violence and that those involved must be held accountable.

There were also comments questioning her awareness of the struggles of ordinary Filipinos, with some bashing her for speaking on issues they felt she does not fully understand.

It can be recalled that two companies owned by the Discaya family were listed among 15 contractor firms flagged by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. for allegedly profiting from flood control projects.

In a past article published by KAMI, Liza Soberano’s controversial vlog on her YouTube channel Can I come in? became the talk of the town. Viewers noticed that a name was bleeped out while Liza was offering a cake to people who, she said, had hurt her. Many assumed the name sounded like “Ogie,” though Ogie Diaz himself believed he was not the one being referred to by his former talent.

Adding to this, Cristy Fermin shared her thoughts on Liza Soberano’s statements. This was about Liza’s revelation regarding the difficult experiences she endured during her childhood. According to Cristy, Liza’s story seemed pitiful, but she also felt it was not entirely believable. Cristy added that Liza’s vivid recollection of her painful past seemed inconsistent with what she perceived as a lack of gratitude toward ABS-CBN and her former manager, Ogie Diaz.
