Juliet revealed that Mercy battled three types of cancer: chest, lung, and bone cancer. Despite her struggles, she remained determined to return to the Philippines to perform with her band.

For the group, moving forward without Mercy has been difficult. “Nahahirapan po kasi pressure din kasi hinahanap nila 'yung isa sa amin. Tapos, minsan \[nabibiro] ako na, ‘Oh, kaboses mo pala si ate.’ Pero, parang nahihirapan kami kasi 'yung grupo nga..” said Kris Sunot, the youngest sibling of Mercy and Juliet.

Bandmate Rey Abenoja also expressed his grief: “Nakakalungkot talaga. Parang ibang-ibang na. Parang kulang na kulang talaga sa grupo 'yung may isang nawala. Lalo na sa bosesan. Kulang talaga eh. Hindi puwedeng palitan ng kung sinoman lang eh. Walang makakapalit sa kaniya.”

In a statement last November, Aegis confirmed Mercy’s passing through their official Facebook page: “It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Mercy, one of the beloved vocalists of AEGIS Band. She bravely fought her battle with cancer but has now found peace and rest.”
