The Kapuso actor took to his Facebook account to share the unfortunate experience with his followers, detailing how his mobile phone was stolen early Monday morning.

According to Betong’s post, the incident occurred at approximately 1:00 AM along the bustling Tomas Morato Avenue.

He explained that he was in the process of booking a ride-hailing service when a motorcycle suddenly passed by him, and in a swift motion, his cellphone was snatched from his grasp.

The speed of the act left him with no chance to pursue the perpetrator.

Visibly upset by the ordeal, Betong mentioned that he is currently using his iPad to communicate.

He immediately sought assistance from the Kamuning Police Station in Quezon City in an attempt to track his stolen device.

He expressed his gratitude to the police officers who aided him in the initial hours following the incident, stating that they helped him track the phone until around 6:00 AM that same morning.

Using the “Find My Device” feature, Betong and the police were able to locate his cellphone in the vicinity of Sta. Mesa, Manila.

However, despite successfully pinpointing its location, they were ultimately unable to recover the stolen device.

The experience has left the comedian understandably frustrated and serving as a stark reminder of the prevalence of street crime, even in seemingly busy areas.

In his social media post, Betong urged his followers and the public to remain vigilant and cautious, emphasizing that criminals do not discriminate in terms of location or time when committing such acts.

His message served as a warning to be aware of one’s surroundings, especially when using mobile devices in public spaces, regardless of how familiar or safe an area might seem.

The snatching incident involving a well-known personality like Betong Sumaya has sparked concern among his fans and the wider entertainment industry.

It highlights the ongoing issue of petty crime in urban areas and the vulnerability of individuals, even in seemingly well-lit and populated locations.

While Betong has not provided further updates on the recovery of his phone, his public sharing of the incident serves as a cautionary tale and an appeal for increased vigilance among the public to avoid becoming victims of similar crimes.

The hashtag “#GODwillMakeAWay” in his post suggests his hope for eventual resolution and perhaps a sense of trust in a positive outcome despite the current setback.

This incident is a reminder that even celebrities are not immune to everyday street crimes, and it underscores the need for continued efforts in law enforcement and community awareness to combat such incidents.
