Drew Arellano, a television host, is being lauded by the Commission on Population and Development (CPD) for taking a bold and responsible step in family planning with his wife.

According to GMA News, the CPD issued a statement commending Drew's decision to undergo a vasectomy — saying it was a clear manifestation of his love and commitment to his family.

"The Commission on Population and Development lauds Mr. Drew Arellano... for receiving vasectomy as his manifestation of love for his spouse and family," the statement read.

In its message, the CPD emphasized how family planning responsibilities have often been shouldered primarily by women and that Drew's decision, they noted, sets an example of shared responsibility between partners when it comes to having kids and planning for them in general.

"This gesture strongly exemplifies responsible parenthood and family planning as promoted by the CPD. Currently, family planning is exercised mostly by women," the CPD said in their note, adding that the involvement of men in such decisions is both commendable and necessary.

The commission further highlighted the importance of men, especially husbands, taking an active role in their family's well-being: "Aside from being more concerned in the holistic growth of their children, involving themselves deeper in the overall welfare of their families is critical."

As reported earlier by ABS-CBN News, Drew decided to undergo the procedure after welcoming his fifth child with wife and fellow TV personality Iya Villania, earlier this year, in February.

Following the news, Interaksyon noted that the online community responded positively to Drew's choice, with netizens praising his maturity and selflessness in long-term family planning.
