Pops Fernandez has taken to social media to post about the passing of the country’s original “Kilabot ng Kolehiyala” in the early 1970s, Hajji Alejandro.

In an Instagram post on Friday, April 25, Pops paid a heartfelt tribute to her fellow musician who recently passed away.

The female singer aired gratitude to the late OPM legend for his timeless music.

“Thank you for your timeless music, @hajjialejandro.official,” Pops began.

“It was a profound honor to share the stage with someone we deeply admire and honor,” she continued, expressing delighted over the opportunity to perform with him in the past.

Hajji passed away on April 21, 2025 at the age of 70 after a battle with stage 4 colon cancer, leaving behind a legacy of timeless music.

Hajji's children include singer Rachel Alejandro, chef Barni, and Mojofly drummer Ali Alejandro, from different relationships.

News5 then posted photos taken by MJ Marfori from Hajji’s wake. The deceased singer and actor’s wake took place at The Chapels at Heritage Park in Taguig. According to the post, the wake was only be held for one day and it was open to Hajji’s family and friends.

The Philippine entertainment industry also mourns the recent deaths of Gloria Romero, Delia Razon, Pilita Corrales, and Nora Aunor.

Hajji’s career took flight in the 1970s, quickly establishing him as a major pop star. His captivating charm and smooth vocal delivery earned him the moniker “Kilabot ng mga Kolehiyala” (heartthrob of college girls).

His extensive discography boasts numerous enduring hits that have become staples in Filipino music, including “Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika” (How Beautiful Our Music Is), which won him the grand prize at the first Metro Manila Popular Music Festival in 1978, “Nakapagtataka” (It's Puzzling), “Tag-Araw, Tag-Ulan” (Summer, Rain), “Panakip-Butas” (Stopgap), “If I Were Man Enough,” and “May Minamahal” (Loving Someone).

Aside from Pops, other celebrities have taken to social media to pay tribute to Hajji. Ogie Alcasid is among those mourning the passing of his fellow OPM icon. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Ogie enumerated Hajji’s pleasing traits. The singer-composer also sent his deepest condolences to the bereaved family. Ogie further expressed his emotional thoughts on the passing of some music icons.

Meanwhile, in a tribute post, Jaya recalled listening to Hajji’s music on the radio as a young kid. She also lauded Hajji for his warm personality, humor, and talent. “Paalam po Mr. Hajji Alejandro,” she likewise told the late singer. Furthermore, Jaya, who currently resides in the US, also sent her sincere sympathy to the bereaved family.
