“Currently, online curated content does not fall within the MTRCB's mandate. This is why we are grateful to the entire Senate for supporting amendments to the MTRCB charter to expand our scope,” the MTRCB through its chair, Ms Lala Sotto said.
“We share Senator Jinggoy Estrada's concerns that we need to protect our viewers, especially children in this digital age,” the regulatory body added.
“As one of its proactive steps, the MTRCB called the attention of subscription-based platforms and encouraged them to observe our standards,” MTRCB further said.
“Rest assured that the MTRCB is doing its best despite the limitations of its current powers under PD 1986,” the regulatory body through MTRCB chair Sotto, said.

Diorella Maria “Lala” Sotto-Antonio is the current chairperson of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) and was appointed to the position by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos. Before her appointment to the regulatory body, she served as councilor for three terms, spanning 18 years, in Quezon City. She is the daughter of former Senate President Vicente Sotto III and Helen Gamboa Sotto.

Last year, MTRCB chair Sotto also issued a statement belying rumors about the regulatory body’s meeting with KSMBPI serving as the trigger of the filing of the criminal complaint against Vice Ganda and Ion Perez. The publication of her statement came after photos of the alleged meeting between the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) chair and Kapisanan ng Social Media Broadcasters ng Pilipinas, Inc. (KSMBPI) surfaced online. Along with the circulation of the photos on social media is the speculation of some netizens that the supposed meeting, which happened last August, triggered the filing of the criminal complaint by KSMBPI against the two “It’s Showtime” hosts. In her statement, Lala admitted such a meeting took place but echoed the statement of the KSMBPI that the conference did not influence the decision of the MTRCB, or trigger the filing of the criminal complaint.

Also last year, MTRCB Chair Sotto, in an interview, was asked by MJ Marfori of TV5 about the things that were being thrown her way. MJ was asking about the threats and bashings that she has received. According to Lala, she believes that God has prepared her for it. She also thanked God that she is unbothered.
