Jude Bacalso, the controversial social media personality, who became viral due to an incident involving a server who stood for hours because of her, opted to go public and share her side of the story.
At the Cebu Press Freedom forum on Sept. 19, titled, "MAMSER: Reaching Out, Improving Media Reporting to Future Journalist," she spoke about the alleged misgendering that she went through.
In CDN's report, Bacalso said that she had a valid complaint and was allegedly misgendered thrice.
“I had a valid complaint. I was misgendered three times. My standard response is always humor, but inclusivity is crucial, especially in public-facing industries,” Bacalso explained.

She also said that neither her nor the server wanted the incident to go public but a person posted about it on social media.
“Neither the server nor I wanted this to go public. Unfortunately, one person posted about it on social media, which put us both in a bad light,” she said.
She also said that misgendering is not a crime.
"Calling someone by their correct pronoun is a form of respect, and I’ll give you that. Wala may mawala nako, wala may mawala nimo (I won’t lose anything and you won’t lose anything)," she added.
News, photos or videos that arouse the interest of netizens would often go viral on social media, due to the attention netizens give them. These viral posts appeal to the emotions of netizens, and in rare cases, such could also happen to ordinary people.
Last month, the waiter who was at the center of the issue with Jude filed a complaint against the social media personality. It can be recalled that the said waiter stood before Jude for almost two hours while she lectured him about misgendering. The entire issued arose after the said waiter referred to Jude as "Sir," a video, as well as screengrabs of which, went viral last July 21. The said waiter filed complaints against Jude on August 28 for Unjust Vexation, Grave Scandal, Grave Coercion, Grave Threats, and Slight Illegal Detention. At the time of the filing of the complaint, the public has been waiting for a statement from Jude.
It can also be recalled that Jude also issued an apology several days after the incident. In a statement posted on her socmed account, the travel writer said she settled the matter with those concerned. She also explained why she acted that way and was remorseful as she could have done differently. Jude then went on to express her what she wished would happen after making this public apology.
