Lawyer lectures Robin Padilla on marital consent: "No means no"

- Atty. Lorna Kapunan, during the hearing of the Senate Committee on Public Information and Mass Media lectured Sen. Robin Padilla on marital consent

- The lawyer, who is also a women's rights advocate said that r$pe can be applied even between spouses

- On "24 Oras," the senator ws asking about the urges of men, and asked about the obligation of the spouse in satisfying those urges

- Kapunan then said that "no means no," that spouses can validly refuse, and that the "obligation of obedience" between spouses in the Family Code has already been amended

Sen. Robin Padilla got schooled by Atty. Lorna Kapunan during the hearing of the Senate Committee on Public Information and Mass Media about the application of r*pe on marriages, if ever that the spouse was forced into s*x without his or her consent.

The senator was asking about the obligation of spouses to satisfy the physical needs of the other.

"So yung dati po na sinasabi na obligasyon ng asawa na babae o lalaki na kapag ka humiling ang asawa lalaki o babae dapat pagbigyan, hindi na po yan?” asked the senator.
“Pag sinabing no, no means no. (It) applies to both genders. Hindi siya pwede iforce ng asawa," Kapunan replied.

The senator then asked for advice as to what he can do in the event that there is a refusal from the spouse.

"Out of ano lang po, urge. Nandyan asawa mo to serve you, ayaw niya. Ano para di ako mareklamo ng asawa ko? Anong pwede kong sabihin sa kanya?” asked the senator.
“Counseling po ang kailangan. Magdasal na lang kayo...We amended the family code to remove the obligation of obedience. That’s why it’s important yung issue ng mutual respect. If your spouse refuses, whether valid o hindi, respetuhin natin yung decision ng wife or nung husband in that case," Kapunan said.

Robin Padilla is a famous action star and endorser in the Philippines. He is married to actress-host Mariel Padilla. The actor has two children with Mariel – Isabella and Gabriela. He is also the father of actress Kylie Padilla. Robin ran for senator in the 2022 Election. He won the race and was number one in the number of votes received among all candidates.

About a month ago, Sen. Robin said he’s disappointed with being a politician, adding that he doesn’t enjoy it. He also said that he finds it hard to sleep nowadays, unlike back when he’s only an actor. The legislator said that despite the hard work he’s doing and things he’s done to help the people, it seems he has no peace of mind. The actor-turned-politician then said that it’s really very hard to perform his job particularly since the system is so rotten.

In another previous news, Sen. Robin shared his thoughts on the breakup between his nephew Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo. According to Abante Tonite, Robin believes that once Kathryn and Daniel mature, they will realize that they are meant for each other and that they will reconcile as a couple once they’re given a project together. The politician also reportedly encouraged Kathryn and Daniel to enjoy their lives away from each other because that will supposedly allow them to realize that they love each other. Furthermore, Robin acknowledged Kathryn’s contribution to Daniel’s success in the showbiz industry.
