Hidilyn Diaz, in a recent post on Instagram, reminisced about her experience during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

In her post, the first Filipino Olympic gold medalist revealed she wore the Our Lady of Miraculous Medal necklace while competing in her weightlifting event.

She expressed belief that the necklace and the pendant helped her win the gold.

“Hindi ko makakalimutan ang Tokyo Olympics awarding kung saan sinuot ko ang Miraculous Medal kasama ang pinakaunang Olympic Gold ng Pilipinas,” Hidilyn said.

She took pride in the face that she’s now in the actual place that inspired the pendant on the said necklace.

“And now, here in Paris, last August 06, 2024 I finally fulfilled my dream of visiting the Chapel of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal in Rue Du Bac,” she said.
“Dito sa Kapilyang ito nagpakita si Mama Mary kay St. Catherine Laboure at inatasan siyang ipalaganap ang Medalya Milagrosa,” the Pinay Olympic gold medalist said.

Hidilyn also revealed she offered a marble memorial at the said chapel by way of expressing her gratitude for winning the gold during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

“I offered a marble memorial at the chapel as a gesture of gratitude for winning the gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics,” the Pinay weightlifting champ said.

She then shared that she was with her husband, Coach Julius Naranjo, and some friends when she visited the chapel.

“Kasama ko ang aking asawa, si Coach Julius Naranjo, and also David Panlilio, who joined me in making an offering at the altar, nagdasal ako at nag nilay sa mga sagradong lugar ng Kapilya,” she said.
“I would always remind athletes na ang success natin ay galing sa Diyos, and we must never forget to give thanks to Him for all the blessings and graces na natatanggap natin,” the Pinay Olympian also said.

Near the end of her post, she thanked several others who gave them a tour of the place.

“Gusto ko magpasalamat sa mga Filipino Sisters ng Daughters of Charity who manage the Chapel, for their warm welcome and care towards us, pati na din sa mga Seminarians of the Society of Foreign Missions of Paris who provided a tour of their seminary and assistance at the Chapel,” Hidilyn said.

The iconic photos of the two Olympic champions from the Philippines have been shared by Philippine Star. Hidilyn won a gold for the Philippines in boxing in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Carlos has won two gold Olympic medals in gymnastics for the country.

Meanwhile in a previous post, Hidilyn made sure that EJ Obiena's sacrifices and efforts are well appreciated. EJ finished fourth in the men's pole vault finals of the 2024 Paris Olympics. The Filipino pole vaulter was heartbroken at the thought of falling short of an Olympic medal. On Instagram Stories, Hidilyn expressed gratitude to EJ for giving his best for the Philippines.
