Leonardo DiCaprio, a popular A-list Hollywood actor, recently wrote an open letter to Philippine President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr.

In his social media page, the Titanic and Wolf of Wall Street actor aired his concern about the Masungi Georeserve located in Baras, Rizal.

The Oscar best actor and environmental advocate then talked about how the area was illegally deforested way back in the 1990s and how local communiities helped restore Masungi’s ecosystem.

“Masungi is a lush montane rainforest landscape outside of Manila, the bustling capital of the Philippines. In the late 1990s, much of Masungi was illegally deforested. Local communities fostered the development of the @masungigeoreserve, spurring efforts to restore this precious ecosystem,” Leo said.

“From these conservation initiatives, trees were able to grow taller, wildlife numbers slowly increased, and more locals became involved in protecting this ecosystem,” he added.

He then showed photos of the popular hiking site and then revealed how its success is now being threatened.

“Now this success is in jeopardy, as the Department of Environment and Natural Resources threatens to cancel the agreement that protects this area from prolific land grabbing activities,” the actor said.
“This cancellation would set back the success of an internationally acclaimed conservation effort and leave the area vulnerable again to mining, logging, and illegal developments,” he further said.

Tagging President Bongbong Marcos in his post, he asked the Philippine leader to intervene for the protection of Masungi.

“Join local rangers in calling on President @bongbongmarcos to intervene and continue to protect Masungi,” the A-list Hollywood actor said.
“Conservation successes like Masungi serve as a reminder that the Philippines can become a leader in sustainability, eco-tourism, biodiversity protection, and climate action. Protect Masungi Georeserve - link in bio,” Leonardo wrote in his post.

Ferdinand "Bongbong" Romualdez Marcos Jr., also more popularly known as BBM or PBBM, is the 17th President of the Republic of the Philippines. He also served as Governor of Ilocos Norte in 1983, holding that office until the ouster of his father, President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. In 1998, he was elected again as Governor of Ilocos Norte and served for three terms and later ran and won a seat in the Philippine Senate during the 2010 elections. He served as Philippine Senator until 2016. He ran for Vice-President during the 2016 elections but was unsuccessful and in 2022, he ran for president and won with a landslide victory.

In a past interview with GMA News, President Bongbong Marcos has revealed why he went to the Coldplay concert in Philippine Arena. He also talked about walking up the stairs by himself and feeling a strong and heavy presence just behind his back, causing him to alternately walk forward and backward.
