Maricel Soriano denies involvement in alleged 'PDEA leaks'

- Maricel Soriano attended the hearing of the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs on the so-called “PDEA leaks” on Tuesday

- During the hearing, the veteran actress denied allegations that she was involved in illegal drugs

- She also admitted to owning the condominium unit mentioned in the reports as being the site of drug-related activities but said she had sold the unit in 2012

- The Diamond star also denied reports that two former household helpers decided to leave the condo unit because of the actress’ alleged cocaine use

Actress Maricel Soriano appeared on Tuesday, May 7, at the hearing of the Senate committee on public order and dangerous drugs on the alleged “PDEA leaks” chaired by Sen. Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa.

According to a report by The Manila Times, the Diamond Star denied that she was involved in illegal drugs after documents allegedly leaked from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) named her and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. as users.

In an article by Manila Bulletin, the document dated March 11, 2012 stated that a confidential informant personally appeared before PDEA to report that a group of showbiz and political personalities are frequently using illegal drugs at unit 46-C, Rizal Tower Building, in Rockwell located in Makati City.   

During the hearing, Soriano admitted to owning the condominium unit mentioned in the document but said she had sold the unit in 2012. She also agreed to provide Dela Rosa with documents for the deed of sale later.

According to GMA News, the veteran actress also denied reports that two former household helpers decided to leave her because of the actress’ alleged cocaine use.

“Hindi po totoo ‘yan,” said Soriano, who explained that her former household helpers left because they robbed her.

When asked if she physically abused the helpers, Soriano stressed, "Paano ko naman po bubugbugin dalawa po sila?"

Maricel Soriano is a Filipina actress who starred in various critically acclaimed films. She is hailed as the 'Diamond Star' for her contribution as an actress in the film industry. Maricel was married to Edu Manzano from 1989 to 1991. Even after their split, Maricel maintains friendly relations with Edu, who is now in a romantic relationship with veteran actress Cherry Pie Picache. Maricel is also the aunt of actress Meryll Soriano.

Earlier, Meryll Soriano and Joem Bascon's son, baby Gido, celebrated his first birthday. The celebrity couple then threw a stunning birthday party for their son styled by Gideon Hermosa’s team. It was attended by their friends and family, including Maricel Soriano, Meryll’s aunt.

Meryll also shared on her Instagram page an endearing candid photo. The photo shows the actress, when she was a little girl, together with her aunt, Maricel Soriano. According to Meryll, it is her favorite picture with her Tita Maricel. The snapshot, showing their “polvo moments”, was captured while they are doing a film.
