In a recent interview on the YouTube channel One Down, hosted by Tessa Albea, actress Liza Soberano opened up about her emotional connection to the late actor AJ Perez, who tragically passed away in 2011 at the age of 18 due to a vehicular accident.

Liza reminisced, "So I was a huge fan of AJ Perez 'cause I have watched him in this one teleserye called Sabel. And it was very unfortunate that he passed away."

She revealed that her connection to AJ prompted her to create her Twitter account, explaining, "And that was the reason why I created my Twitter because I wanted to have some sort of memory of him, so I followed him."

The actress shared a haunting experience of receiving messages from AJ after his passing, but eventually learning that it was just AJ’s family members sending her messages.

"It was strange because I started receiving messages from him after he had passed away and first, I was scared of, like, checking it because I was like, ‘what’s going on?’"

“And then eventually, I came to it and then I checked the message. It was messages from his family, but it was always very scary when I would receive notifications from AJ Perez,” Liza shared.

The actress also found solace in connecting with AJ's family, particularly his younger brother Gelo, and expressed, "But, yeah, I became friends with his younger brother, Gelo, and his family. Eventually, I was introduced to them."

Reflecting on the day of AJ's tragic accident, Liza revealed a surreal encounter, saying, ”The day he passed away, I was on my way –’cause I lived in Pangasinan at that time and I actually passed by his accident and that was the day that I auditioned for the first time ever to be like an artista.

“It was crazy. I didn’t know it was him. There’s an ABS-CBN van and it was, like, smashed.”

She recounted the moment she learned of his passing, saying, "And then I get to my VTR, and then my road manager at the time, he was like, ‘namatay si AJ Perez’. I was like, ‘No! He can’t be dead, it’s not real!’ And then I started crying and I was like, ‘I wanna go to his wake.’ And then my family was like, ‘he doesn’t know you.’”

Liza Soberano is a Fil-Am actress, singer, endorser, and model. She has starred in various TV series and movies, which include 'Forevermore,' 'Dolce Amore,' and 'Bagani,' among others. The actress left her home talent center, ABS-CBN’s Star Magic, to pursue a career in Hollywood.

Recently, Liza came out as an absolute stunner as she attended Lisa Frankenstein's premiere in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California. She joined the movie's lead stars Kathryn Newton and Cole Sprouse, director Zelda Williams, and screenwriter Diablo Cody at the event. In another interview published on the social media channel of Universal Pictures Philippines, admitted that one of her inspirations is international star Dolly de Leon. It was Dolly herself who asked the question about Liza's excitement over her break into Hollywood. She explained that when the trailer of the movie dropped, she felt as though a thorn had been taken off her chest. The actress also said that she is proud that she is part of a community trying to represent the Philippines in the international movie scene.
