Liza Soberano, in an interview over “Broad Ideas” podcast, which is hosted by Rachel Bilson and Olivia Allen, expressed her opinion about “mental health” issue in the Philippines.
The ‘Lisa Frankenstein’ co-star said that unlike in America, people in the Philippines “don't really like to talk about mental health that much.”
“I was dealing with a lot of things mentally and then I came across this company called 'Mind You' in the Philippines and they're the first I would say Mental Health Service company in the Philippines,” Liza said.
“Unlike here in the States, we're very I would say behind just in terms of like really understanding mental health and mental health issues and having like different areas to go to when you're struggling,” she added.

She also said that most Filipinos consider “mental health” as a “taboo topic.”
“It's a taboo topic because I think honestly it dates all the way back to like being colonized 'cause we were colonized for so long,” the actress said.
Liza also touched on the issue of “utang na loob,” which in her explanation meant “like you're forever in debt to just be grateful for whatever it is that you have.”

In another interview published on the social media channel of Universal Pictures Philippines, admitted that one of her inspirations is international star Dolly de Leon. It was Dolly herself who asked the question about Liza's excitement over her break into Hollywood. She explained that when the trailer of the movie dropped, she felt as though a thorn had been taken off her chest. The actress also said that she is proud that she is part of a community trying to represent the Philippines in the international movie scene.
