Maris Racal’s recent repost on social media showing the new Miss Universe, Ms Nicaragua, wearing what appeared to be a similar gown worn by the Pinay singer-actress in the past has gone viral.

Ms Nicaragua was declared the winner of the Miss Universe pageant 2023, the first of such title for her country.

Some Pinoys, however, were quick to find humor amid the unsuccessful attempt of the representative of the Philppines to the said pageant.

Eagle-eyed Pinoy netizens noted that the gown worn by the new Miss Universe seemed to be similar to that previously worn by Maris.

A couple of them took to social media to upload memes about the gown and jokingly tell Maris she can’t fool them as she was really Ms Nicaragua.

The Pinay singer-actress, who must have found the memes humorous, started reposting them in her Instagram Stories.

“Di mo kami maloloko Maris, ikaw si Nicaragua,” said one caption in a post of a netizen showing a photo of Maris wearing the said gown.

“Ilaban mo ate @mariesteller,” said another netizen in a post showing a video of Ms Nicaragua wearing the gown similar to Maris’.

“At dahil i'm getting so many tags from the pageant faneys, eto na! Dear people of Nicaragua, SABEHHHH?” says fashion designer Marc Rancy in his post showing a side-by-side photo of Maris and Ms Nicaragua.

“Mamiii we made it haha,” Marc added below his post.

Mariestella "Maris" Cañedo Racal, or Maris Racal, is a Filipina actress, singer-songwriter, host, vlogger, and endorser. She became prominent in 2014 after joining "Pinoy Big Brother: All In" where she placed second. She is now in a relationship with Rico Blanco, the singer, and they have also been sharing their photos and videos of their sweet moments on social media.

Recently, the Pinay singer-actress took to IG Stories to share the reaction of her mother to her series, "Can't Buy Me Love." The actress said that her mom is actually a huge fan of the series. However, she also shared the catch that came with her mom being a "fan" of CBML. She revealed that her mother "hates" her now because of the series, considering that she plays the antagonist Irene Tiu.

She also previously took to Instagram and shared new photos. She included a caption, "real bangs na talaga." The post is very significant since she previously posted a video clip where she was crying because of uneven microbangs. In the viral post, Maris said that she looked like a pencil, and her post actually went viral.
