- In her statement, Lala admitted such a meeting took place but echoed the statement of the KSMBPI that the conference did not influence the decision of the MTRCB, or trigger the filing of the criminal complaint

Lala Sotto, the chairperson of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB), has issued a statement belying rumors surrounding the photos of the regulatory body’s meeting with the Kapisanan ng Social Media Broadcasters ng Pilipinas, Inc. (KSMBPI).
The photos have surfaced and widely circulated online, along with some netizens’ speculations that the said meeting triggered KSMBPI’s filing of a criminal complaint against Vice Ganda and Ion Perez.
It can be recalled that KSMBPI, a social media broadcasters’ group, reportedly filed a criminal complaint against the “It’s Showtime” hosts at the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office last Monday, September 11.
When photos of KSMBPI and MTRCB surfaced and widely circulated online, some netizens’ began speculating about the regulatory body’s hand in the filing of the criminal complaint.

In her statement, the MTRCB Chair quoted KSMBPI’s declaration about the non-participation of the regulatory body.
“As stated by the KSMBPI, its decision to file a case “was never triggered nor influenced in any way by the MTRCB,” Chair Lala’s statement read.
“We urge everyone not to interpret these photos with any malicious intent,” it further stated.
Diorella Maria “Lala” Sotto-Antonio is the current chairperson of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) and was appointed to the position by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos. Before her appointment to the regulatory body, she served as councilor for three terms, spanning 18 years, in Quezon City. She is the daughter of former Senate President Vicente Sotto III and Helen Gamboa Sotto.
Several days ago, the MTRCB also released a statement as regards its decision in slapping a 12-day suspension to the noontime show, “It’s Showtime.” According to the MTRCB statement, Chairperson Lala did not participate in the voting process so the board could render an impartial decision. The regulatory body also assured the public that they will remain fair and just as regards their decision.
Previously, MTRCB Chair Lala also granted showbiz reporter Ogie Diaz an interview. One of the topics they discussed during the interview is the supposed video clip of Lala’s parents, Tito Sotto and Helen Gamboa, on “E.A.T.” She clarified that even if they’re her parents and they are connected to “E.A.T.,” she would require them to obey rules and policies by the MTRCB. She also explained to Ogie the process on how MTRCB checks and decides complaints regarding shows alleged to be in violation of the regulatory body’s rules.
