Ogie Diaz recently made public the statement of the mom of the late Rico Yan, which appeared to be sent through a text message by his brother, Bobby Yan.

In her statement, Rico’s mom, Sita Yan, gave her reaction to the issues surrounding the name of her late son.

“It has been 21 years since Rico passed on March 29, 2002. The pain of the family losing a son and a brother has been permanently etched into our being,” Sita said in her statement.

Rico’s mom also said that the issues surrounding her son now are very unfair and disrespectful.

“The recent news swirling around Rico is very unfair. He is no longer around to give his comment to either refute, deny, or acknowledge the claims. It is not only unfair but disrespectful,” she added.

She then issued an appeal for everyone concerned, though stopped short of naming any names.

“I ask everyone concerned to please STOP using Rico's name for their own individual purposes. Please leave Rico, and us in peace. Thank you,” Sita Yan said.

The text message was signed “Sita Yan, Rico's mother.”

Rico Yan was a Pinoy film and TV actor, model, host, matinee idol, entrepreneur, and spokesperson. He graduated from De La Salle University in 1997 with a degree in Marketing Management. Rico was the first official youth spokesman for the Department of Education, Culture and Sports in 1998, touring the Philippines for free to promote education among youths. He was also an alumnus of Star Circle Batch 1 now ABS-CBN Corporation's Star Magic in November 1995.

In a separate post, the former girlfriend of Rico, Claudine Barretto, took to IG and shared a screenshot of her video call with the sister of the late actor. The actress then gave a message to Tina Marie Yan, whom she fondly calls as Tinee. She said that she wished Tina was there because she was missing her terribly. Clau also thanked "Chad" for making her sister Tina happy and glowing.

The late matinee idol's name recently hugged the headlines because of the claim of sultry actress, Sabrina M, who alleged she had a secret romantic relationship with Rico after he broke up with Claudine. Sabrina got criticized for her claims. Amid the bashings, Sabrina M shared a video of a message about how to handle getting hurt by other people. The video advised that a person should not take revenge if others are hurting him or her. Instead of taking revenge, that person should remain humble, forgive her oppressors, and leave everything to God, the video says.
