In her post, the former Ms. Universe uploaded a report citing the explanation of DOJ Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla on why he rejected the recommendations as “not acceptable,” citing the Philippines as being a pre-dominantly Catholic nation.

Pia questioned the decision, asking if the country is going backwards as a nation.

“Waking up to this.. Are we going backwards as a nation?” Pia wrote.

“The SOGIE bill has been a topic of discussion whenever I'm with my LGBTQIA+ friends and I've learned so much more about it over the years,” she added.

The beauty queen then explained why such bills should be passed into law by Congress.

“To be clear, it's not about taking away any rights from straight people, and it's not giving ‘special rights’ to the LGBTQIA+ community either,” Pia wrote.

“It's about EQUALITY. Yung pantay pantay tayong lahat. So that our rights, safety, and well-being are protected. WE ALL NEED THIS. Kahit ikaw na straight makikinabang ka dito. Please if you haven't, a quick google search will tell you what the SOGIE bill is all about,” she further wrote.

Pia then asked why it would seem the religion card is used when found convenient by some.

“Even divorce, same gender marriage, and safe abortions were rejected. Of the many recommendations that passed, why are these being excluded? Why does it seem like we use the religion card only when its convenient?” Pia asked.

In a previous Instagram post, she informed everyone that she took time to roam around and relax after a grueling NYC marathon. The beauty queen recently joined the popular marathon and won a medal there. After the run, she complained of aches in various parts of her body, though was able to walk normally the following day. Her coach also advised her not to run and to eat healthy so her recovery period would be fast.
