In a speech interrupted by sobs, a grieving Eddie talked about the good times he had with Susan whom he has met and worked with since November of 1958.
“I met Susan Roces in 1958, November, when I signed a contract with Sampaguita Pictures. And my first dialogue was with Susan. The movie was Prinsesang Gusgusin,” Eddie said.
He also talked about the time he and Susan, along with other companions, met Elvis Presley while making a movie in the US.
“Sabi niya sa amin, ‘You folks from the Philippines?’ ‘Yes,’ sabi ko. ‘Well, I met some Filipino folks, they surely don’t look like you!’” Eddie narrated.
“Sabi ko, ‘Who did you meet?’ ‘I met the ReyCards!’ Si Carding pala!” the veteran actor humorously added.
At this point, the veteran actor was unable to hold back his tears anymore as he reminded everyone that Susan has a good heart.
“Alam naman ng lahat na si Susan, hindi lang maganda kungdi pati puso niya maganda,” Eddie said in between sobs.
He then shared a conversation over the telephone he had with Susan on her birthday.
“Nu’ng last birthday niya, tinawagan ko siya. Sabi ko, ’80!’ ‘Oo nga, 80 na ako,’ sabi niya. Nag-usap kami almost an hour. Sabi niya, ‘Eddie, wala na yung mga kasama natin. Si Bobby, si Amalia, si Jose Mari, si Liberty, si Lito Legaspi. Tayo na lang dalawa,’
“Hanggang, yun nga, birthday niya, parang all of a sudden, naging malungkot siya. Tapos nagpaalam na kami, sabi niya sa akin, ‘Take care,” the veteran actor said.
At this point, Eddie was crying profusely as he said that he noticed the voice of Susan seemingly sad.
“Sabi ko, ‘Ikaw rin, take care. Mahal na mahal kita, Susan.’ ‘Ikaw rin,’ sabi niya, ‘Mahal kita,’” Eddie said while crying.
Then, facing the casket of Susan, the veteran actor said that he’s going to miss her.
“I miss you, you will always be a part of my life…see you in heaven,” Eddie said.
