Kean Cipriano revealed what led to his decision to leave Callalily in 2022, including his desire to explore new opportunities beyond the group.

During an interview on "Fast Talk With Boy Abunda" on Thursday, August 20, the OPM singer and actor explained that he felt there was something else he wanted to explore at the time. He also revealed that the members of Callalily had started pursuing different interests, which played a role in his decision to move forward.

Looking back on his departure, Kean acknowledged that his relationship with his former bandmates had become strained after spending 17 years together. He admitted that their time as a group had become difficult, with tensions and disagreements affecting their relationship.

Kean also reflected on how their separation unfolded, saying he regretted that their issues were not settled through a private discussion among the band members. Instead, their disagreements eventually became a matter of public attention on social media.

He said he felt disappointed that things turned out that way because he believed they could have addressed their concerns through a conversation among themselves.

When asked about his relationship with his former bandmates today, Kean said they remain civil but have not fully reconnected. He explained that the band also involved business matters, including royalties and other concerns that needed to be settled following his departure.

Kean left Callalily in June 2022. Following his exit, the band changed its name to LILY and later introduced Joshua Bulot as its new vocalist. In November 2025, drummer Lem Belaro also announced his departure from the group.

Callalily was formed in 2006 and became known for several OPM hits, including "Magbalik," one of the band's most recognized songs.

Months ago, Kean Cipriano revealed that he suffered a painful ankle injury that required medical treatment and a strict recovery period. Doctors advised him to skip the upcoming Cebu concert to avoid worsening the injury. Despite his absence, the other Sessionistas continued with the show, while Kean shared photos of himself wearing a brace and using crutches as supporters wished him a speedy recovery.

Last year, Kean announced the passing of his mother, Chona, on social media. In an emotional tribute, he expressed gratitude for her love and guidance, saying he continues to feel her presence through nature and the songs he performs. Amid his grief, Kean vowed to stay strong for his family and honor her memory.
