Actor Jeric Gonzales spoke candidly about his breakup with beauty queen and actress Rabiya Mateo during his guest appearance on GMA’s Fast Talk With Boy Abunda.

Host Boy Abunda recalled a previous interview with the former couple, quoting their past statements about how they once realized they could not be without each other and how they fought for their love.
“Hindi ko malilimutan 'yung mga binitawan niyong salita na 'Na-realize pala namin na hindi namin kaya na wala ang isa't isa.' May pangalawa pa, 'Ipinaglaban namin ang pagmamahalan namin.'”
Responding to this, Jeric acknowledged their efforts to save the relationship but admitted that they eventually made a mutual decision to part ways.

“Of course, Tito Boy. Hindi ko maipagkakaila ’yun na ipinaglaban namin. But of course, there are things na mutually, napagkasunduan din namin na ’Parang kung ilalaban natin ‘to, parang mas mahirapan tayo pareho. We have to grow,’” he said.
Jeric also shared that maintaining a relationship in the entertainment industry comes with its own challenges, which contributed to their decision.
Despite the breakup, the actor had nothing but kind words for his former partner, expressing his appreciation for her understanding and support throughout their time together.
“Sa showbiz, it’s very difficult na magkaroon ng relasyon, but lahat inintindi niya ’yun, malawak siyang tao, si Rabiya. And I thank her kasi inalagaan niya ako for all those years,” Jeric added.
Rabiya Mateo rose to prominence after being crowned Miss Universe Philippines 2020, representing Iloilo City before competing on the international Miss Universe stage. After her pageant journey, she transitioned into the entertainment industry, taking on roles in acting, hosting, and endorsements while steadily building her career.
