Beauty queen and actress Ahtisa Manalo expressed concern over the continued objectification of women during her contract signing with GMA’s Sparkle Artist Center on Tuesday.

In a video uploaded on Facebook by Inquirer, Ahtisa was asked about recent discussions online regarding the treatment of women in public discourse. She said the issue remains deeply troubling, especially given that such attitudes still persist today.

“I think it’s a deeply concerning issue that, up until now, women are treated as objects. It’s pervasive in our society, sadly, even with the recent news happening,” she said.

The beauty queen emphasized that one way to combat the problem is to actively call out behavior that diminishes women’s dignity.

“I think it all starts with the right way of calling it out, making sure that it doesn’t go unnoticed. You won’t let it happen because if you let it happen, you’re also part of the problem. So, calling it out is a great way to do it, to let people know that it’s not okay to do that,” Ahtisa added.

Her comments come amid ongoing discussions surrounding Quezon City 4th District Representative Bong Suntay’s controversial remarks referencing actress Anne Curtis during a congressional hearing. The statement drew widespread criticism from public figures and officials who argued that the comments objectified women. Suntay later apologized, clarifying that he has never actually seen Anne Curtis in person and that his remark was intended as an analogy.

Ahtisa Manalo is a 28-year-old beauty queen from Candelaria, Quezon who first gained national attention after finishing as first runner-up at Miss International 2018. After stepping away from pageantry for several years, she made a strong comeback by winning the Miss Universe Philippines 2025 crown. Known for her striking beauty and composed presence, Ahtisa went on to place as third runner-up at the 74th Miss Universe competition held in Thailand, further solidifying her reputation as one of the country’s most accomplished beauty queens.
