The controversy began after Suntay made remarks about Anne Curtis during a House committee hearing, which drew criticism from lawmakers, public officials, and various personalities.

Following the backlash, Suntay issued a public apology and clarified that he had never personally met Anne Curtis. He explained that his statement was intended only as an analogy during the discussion and was not meant to disrespect the actress.

Earlier, Malacañang also condemned the controversial remarks made by Rep. Bong Suntay about Anne Curtis during a congressional hearing. Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the statements could potentially fall under the Safe Spaces Act because they were expressed publicly and referred to a specific woman. She also rejected the suggestion that such remarks could be interpreted as compliments.

Previously, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte urged Rep. Bong Suntay to apologize for the remarks involving Anne Curtis. Belmonte said the comments contradict the city’s continuing efforts to uphold women’s dignity and empowerment. She further noted that Suntay himself once helped pass gender-protection policies when he served in the Quezon City Council.
