The Film Academy of the Philippines announced Bertubin’s passing on social media, though the cause of death has not been revealed.
“The Film Academy of the Philippines mourns the passing of filmmaker and a steadfast leader of the community, Director Roni Bertubin,” the organization said in its statement.
Known for his acclaimed works Love Birds and Sikil, Bertubin made a lasting mark on Philippine filmmaking. He was also a dedicated member of the Directors Guild of the Philippines (DGPI), where he played an important role in guiding fellow directors and fostering a collaborative environment.

“He was a stalwart of the Directors Guild of the Philippines (DGPI) and will forever be remembered for his calming presence on the set and the joyful light he brought to industry projects,” the Film Academy said, highlighting his warmth and professionalism.
