Vice Ganda won Best Actor at the 2025 Metro Manila Film Festival for his performance in the film Call Me Mother. His victory quickly became one of the most talked-about moments of the awards night, especially after his emotional acceptance speech spread online as he apologized to his partner Ion Perez.

During his speech, Vice spoke about the pain of repeatedly postponing plans to have children through surrogacy with his partner because of his busy schedule. He admitted that each delay felt heavy and heartbreaking, and he shared how strong his desire has become to finally be a parent and raise a child of his own.
“Gusto kong mag-sorry kay Ion kasi taon-taon hindi natutuloy ang plano namin kaya parang taon-taon namamatayan din kami ng anak.
Gusto ko na talaga maging nanay kasi gusto ko nang mag-mahal ng bata na sarili ko, na akin, na puwedeng-puwede dahil nanay na ako.”

Vice Ganda and Ion Perez have been together for several years and have been open about their relationship. In October 2021, they marked their commitment by getting married in a private ceremony in Las Vegas.
