The couple shared the happy news during their guest appearance on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” on Friday, December 19, where Mav confirmed her pregnancy on national television.

“It’s a honeymoon baby so parang pagbalik ko po ng Pilipinas,‘cause I was just diagnosed with [polycystic ovary syndrome] right before the wedding, so sabi ng OB,‘you have PCOS, may infection ka, it’s gonna be hard for you to conceive,’” she recalled.
Mav explained that her doctors initially warned her that conceiving could be difficult due to her condition, making the pregnancy even more unexpected. After returning home, she went in for a follow-up medical checkup, which led to a surprising turn of events.
“Pagbalik ko po dito, I went for a follow-up checkup and the doctor said,‘you have an infection ulit.’Something in me, naisip ko lang,‘hmm mag a-antibiotics ako, hindi pa ko dinadatnan, parang dapat mag test ako just to be safe’and it was a positive test,” she said.
Despite the joyful news, Mav admitted that her and Matthew’s initial reaction was not what many might expect.
“I think we were both shocked kasi it was very unexpected, definitely unplanned,” she added, noting that neither of them cried upon finding out.
Following the television announcement, Mav also took to social media to share her personal journey with her followers. She posted photos proudly showing her baby bump alongside a sonogram of their baby, offering fans a glimpse into this new chapter of their lives.
In her caption, Mav candidly reflected on the challenges she faced before conceiving and how their honeymoon turned out to be life-changing.
“A month before our wedding, I was diagnosed with PCOS and told I’ll probably have issues conceiving because of my age too. Well, a one-week honeymoon beat the odds.”
She went on to share her excitement about becoming parents, while adding lighthearted notes that resonated with many of her followers.
“Mini us coming soon. P.S. Yes, this is why I was grumpy on my birthday salubong lol P.P.S. Future family on the last slide. Do you think it’s a boy or a girl?”
The announcement was met with an outpouring of congratulatory messages from fans, colleagues, and fellow journalists, many of whom praised Mav for her openness and honesty about her journey to motherhood.
Mav Gonzales and Matthew Valeña matched on a dating app in March and met in person the following month. They got engaged in June and tied the knot in September.
