Actress Kris Bernal took to Instagram Stories to share her reaction to the news that the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) will investigate the controversial hillside project The Rise at Monterrazas in Cebu after the province was hit by massive floods due to Typhoon Tino.

Kris expressed her frustration over how such developments were approved in the first place, saying that corruption continues to endanger lives and worsen the struggles of poor communities. She said it was unjust that the powerful continue to live in comfort while many suffer the consequences of irresponsible projects.

Kris wrote:

“It should never have been granted permission in the first place.

“But with the systemic corruption in our country, everyone seems to have their ‘cut. So much suffering, so much displacement of those already living beyond the poverty line - while those in power continue to live in privilege, funded by the public’s money.”

Typhoon Tino left widespread devastation across the Philippines, particularly in the Visayas region, where flash floods and landslides claimed at least 180 lives and displaced thousands of residents. Cebu suffered some of the worst damage, with infrastructure and homes severely affected as authorities continue rescue and relief operations.
