Journalist Karen Davila voiced outrage on social media following the massive destruction caused by Typhoon Tino in Cebu, where flash floods have claimed more than 188 lives and left several communities buried in mud and debris.

Davila questioned how such devastation could occur despite billions of pesos supposedly allocated for the flood control systems in recent years. She emphasized that the tragedy reflects a nationwide pattern, pointing out that many areas across the Philippines continue to face severe flooding despite government projects supposedly designed to prevent it.

“HOW CORRUPTION CAN COST LIVES.

188 dead and rising. The worst flash flood in the history of the province. Cebu has 414 flood control projects worth to P26.7 billion from 2022 to 2025 - meant to protect our people, homes and livestock. What happened?!

At hindi lang ito sa Cebu province, buong Pilipinas binabaha dahil ninanakaw lang naman ang flood control.

Extreme weather conditions will only worsen. It is a part of the world we live in today. What breaks my heart is seeing how our people are suffering because of systemic corruption.

Nakaka-awa ang ordinaryong Pilipino. Habang nagdurusa sa hirap at kalamidad, maraming pulitiko naliligo sa nakaw na yaman.
