Chanda Romero falls victim to death hoax; Atty. Joji Alonso issues frank reaction

Film producer and lawyer Atty. Joji Villanueva Alonso has publicly denounced a circulating false report claiming that veteran actress Chanda Romero had passed away.

The post falsely alleged that the award-winning actress died of a heart attack.

The fake death announcement read:

“MALUNGKOT NA BALITA: Veteran Actress Na Si Chanda Romero, Pumanaw Na Sa Edad Na 71 Pasado 2:00 Ng Hapon Ngayong Araw (October 11, 2025) Dahil Sa Atake Sa Puso. Ang Aming Taos-pusong Pakikiramay.

Atty. Joji promptly refuted the claim through a Facebook post, pointing out that the same individual had previously spread similar false information about another actor.

“The person who posted this is the same person who posted that Michael de Mesa passed, which we all know is NOT true,” she wrote.

She went on to express her frustration over the repeated fabrication of celebrity death stories, calling out the irresponsibility behind such posts.

“I don’t understand why people make up stories like these? Sana ipost nyo na lang na kayo ang namatay!!!”

Finally, Atty. Joji assured everyone that Chanda is alive and doing well.

“Chanda is very much alive po, and happy and content.”

Chanda Romero is a highly respected and award-winning Filipino actress known for her versatility and enduring presence in film and television. In a previous report by KAMI, Michael de Mesa was also targeted by a death hoax circulating on social media. A Facebook post falsely claimed that he had passed away at the age of 65 due to a heart attack. The veteran actor then addressed the matter through Instagram Stories, stressing that the report was false. He also urged his followers to help report the misleading post to stop the spread of fake news.

Earlier, Kris Aquino responded to another circulating death hoax about her. Her close friend Dindo Balares took to social media to share an update about the Queen of All Media. As per the retired journalist, Kris is currently residing on a private beach resort. He even assured those worried about Kris that the latter is still alive. Dindo likewise revealed the message he received from Kris, reacting to the claim that she had passed away.
