Actor and music executive James Reid candidly shared details about a painful chapter in his career during an interview with veteran journalist Karen Davila. Reid, who co-founded the talent and music agency Careless, was asked about rumors that he was betrayed by a business partner and allegedly lost over ₱100 million in the process.

“It was an expensive lesson,” James admitted. “But it was never really about the money. It was really the betrayal that hurt the most.” He added that the experience taught him invaluable life lessons that helped shape his character, saying, “Going through that type of challenge really built a lot of character and it taught me so many things, so many life lessons that I don’t think I would have learned any other way.”

Karen also brought up Liza Soberano, who was once under James’ management at Careless but has since pursued a solo career in the United States. When asked whether Liza ever reached out to apologize or explain her departure, James calmly responded, “No… I don’t need an apology or explanation at all. She really wanted to focus on her career sa US so we parted ways. I have no ill feelings or ill will towards her. I’m very happy for her. I’m proud of everything she’s achieved sa US.”

Despite past challenges, James remains focused on rebuilding and continuing his creative work, choosing growth over resentment.

But one thing he's excited about, he said, is the possibility of being able to work with Coco Martin again.
