In a couple of photos shared on social media showing Leon and his yaya together, the young Barretto expressed his profound gratitude and love in a heartfelt letter that quickly went viral. Leon’s words painted a picture of a woman who was more than just a nann as she was like a second mother, a constant presence, and a pillar of their household.
”Had to say goodbye to my yaya of 22 years. Truly heartbreaking but happy knowing you finally get to rest and enjoy life back in Cebu. You have sacrificed so much for our family, especially for me, from the moment you chose to take care of me.”
Leon reminisced about how she had been with him through every stage of his life, from kindergarten to college graduation. He shared anecdotes that showed just how involved she was in his growth and education.
“You’ve been there through every phase of my life. From kinder all the way to me finishing college. Would you believe that there was a time I was smaller than you? You’ve guided me on the right path and taught me so many things, including how to speak Tagalog to the point you reviewed me almost every night for my Filipino subjects.”
He also offered a sincere apology for his mischievous behavior as a child, thanking her for her patience and discipline, which he credits for shaping the person he is today.
“Thank you for being so patient with me, Manang. I’m sorry for being such a kulit and pasaway kid growing up. But because of your discipline towards me, I have become a better person.”
Among the memories he cherished most were the small but meaningful gestures that spoke volumes of her love—waking him up to eat, carrying him on her back, and standing by their family in times of need.
“I’ll never forget the times you picked me up from school, carried me on your back from my room to the living room just so I could wake up and eat, and most of all, for never leaving Mom, helping her take care of us, protect us, and love us like your own.”
Leon closed his message with a simple but powerful goodbye:
”Love you so much, Manang. Enjoy your well-deserved retirement.”
The touching post was met with an outpouring of support and admiration online, with fans commending Leon for honoring his yaya’s years of loyalty and love.
