Actress Rita Avila took to Instagram to share heartfelt memories of the late National Artist Nora Aunor, days after the legendary actress passed away.

Alongside screenshots of Nora’s kind messages to her, Rita opened up about her journey from being a fan to a friend of some of the country’s most iconic stars.
Rita candidly recalled first admiring Vilma Santos, saying, “Alam naman ng marami na una kong hinangaan si Ate Vi (Vilma Santos). Sinabi ni Roderick (Roderick Paulate) noon na gusto akong maging friend ni Ate Vi. Sabi ko kay Roderick, ‘Hindi ko kaya.’ Kasi naman. Mangingisay ako no? Nakita ko siya 1st time sa ‘Vilma’, nakatulala lang ako. Pero ang saya siguro kung naging friends kami ano? Pero may occasional messages kami sa isa’t isa. She is very nice.”

She then shifted her tribute to Nora Aunor, recalling the nerves she felt working with the Superstar for the first time in the critically acclaimed film The Flor Contemplacion Story.

“SO ETO NA: 1st shooting day ko sa Flor Contemplacion with Ate Guy. Naninigas ata ako,” Rita shared. “Bumulong si Direk Joel na wag ako kabahan at nakatalikod lang naman si Ate Guy sa akin sa eksena. Eh NORA AUNOR siya ano?!!!”
Despite her star status, Nora quickly made Rita feel at ease, and a quiet but genuine friendship blossomed between them.
“Naging friends kami somehow. Yung di lagi nagkikita pero may mga moments ng true friendship,” she wrote. “Napakapalad kong makita siya bilang tao, hindi superstar. Napaka-humble. Sa kanya ata ako nahawa ng maraming Po at Opo.”
Rita’s tribute has been met with warmth and nostalgia from fans who continue to mourn the loss of the one and only Superstar.
Nora Aunor was a celebrated Filipino actress, singer, and producer. Known as the 'Superstar of Philippine cinema, she has earned critical acclaim for her powerful performances in films such as Himala, Bona, and The Flor Contemplacion Story. Her contributions to the arts were recognized in 2022 when she was named National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts. In 1975, Nora married fellow actor Christopher de Leon. They have one biological son, Ian de Leon, and adopted four children: Lotlot, Matet, Kiko, and Kenneth de Leon.

She mentioned that Vilma Santos and Esperanza "Espie" Fabon were her "chum girls." She also shared that she dislikes arrogant people. She named Nancy Wilson, Dionne Warwick, and Barbra Streisand as her favorite singers.
Meanwhile, Nora Aunor shared the story of how she lost her powerful and striking voice. She said she simply woke up one day only to find out that she could no longer sing. She admitted that it was a painful experience for her, as she used to love singing more than acting back then. Unfortunately, her once-powerful voice could never be restored.
