Comedian and television host Vice Ganda has expressed in an interview with ABS-CBN News his mixed reactions regarding the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) giving It’s Showtime Babe Heart Aquino a tour of their offices after she admitted on national television that she did not know what COMELEC was.

Aquino, who gained online attention for her viral response on ABS-CBN’s noontime show, was later invited by COMELEC to learn more about the agency’s functions. While Vice Ganda appreciated COMELEC’s open-minded response to the issue, he also raised concerns about the broader implications of their approach.

“Mixed emotions ako doon. Unang-una, gusto ko kung paano tinanggap ng COMELEC ’yung issue. Tinanggap nila nang bukas ang kanilang pag-iisip at bukas ang kalooban. Sinabi nga nila na parang failure nila ’yun sa COMELEC—baka nga nagkaroon sila ng pagkukulang sa pagpapalaganap ng impormasyon tungkol sa kanila. Kaya inaako din nila. Sabi ko, ‘Ay, ang galing, inaako din nila,’” Vice said.

However, Vice Ganda also pointed out that while the invitation was a step in the right direction, it was not enough to address the larger issue of voter education.

“Tapos yung pag-imbita, okay naman pero mababaw yun eh. Di ba? Kumbaga sa ginawa nilang yun, parang isang tao lang. Pangmalawakan kasi ito eh. Yung kampanya kailangan maging pangmalawakan,” he added.

Vice’s remarks highlight the need for COMELEC to strengthen its efforts in educating the public, especially young voters, about the importance of the electoral process. While the agency’s response to Aquino’s viral moment was seen as proactive, the comedian emphasized that a wider-reaching and more comprehensive information campaign is necessary to ensure that more Filipinos are informed about their rights and responsibilities as voters.
