He said the scam may not be new and could be going on for some time, though he admitted he had known about it recently.

“Hi guys! I just wanna let you know na may na-discover akong scam ng mga online seller,” Michael began in his video post.

Michael then showed a black metal thing that he described as a light stand, which he said costs only P500 or even less.

“Yung nakalagay sa resibo is selfie stick. Nung idineliver to, siningil mga kasambahay ko ng COD P2,500,” the actor said.

He then revealed that he seldom buys COD online and would always use his credit card to pay for the items.

“Kapag nagsi-COD ako, madalas, ibinibilin ko sa mga kasambahay na ‘may padating dyan na delivery na ano yan COD,’ so nag-iiwan na ako ng pera na pambayad,” Michael said.

The actor presumed some online sellers may have seen records of customers’ names and addresses, then use that to perpetuate the scam.

He said there are some recipients who are unaware of the scam and so would shell out money for the item delivered, not knowing they paid for way too much for a simple and cheap item like the one his house help received.

Michael said, however, that he is not generalizing online sellers but there are really a few unscrupulous ones who engage in such scams.

The actor then gave advice to online shoppers to be extra careful when receiving items.
