Norwegian-Pinoy chef lambasts Filipino food on TV: "Very bad food"

- A Norwegian-Pinoy chef became viral in the Philippines after he referred to Filipino food as "very bad food"

- He described it as one with lots of deep-fried and lots of fried-to-death dishes

- He also said that Filipino food is more on the sour side

- The video had an English translation so non-Norwegian speakers were able to understand what he was saying

A Norwegian Pinoy chef, Jonathan Romano, has lambasted Filipino food on TV. He used the term "darlig mat," which means "bad food" to describe Filipino cuisine.

The chef, who happens to be a restaurateur and sushi chef, as well as a Masterchef Norway judge, made the pronouncement during a TV program 4-stjerners middag (4-star dinner).

He was a guest in the said show and he was asked to give his opinion on Filipino dishes.

The translation went:

"It’s very bad food."
"In the eyes of a chef, there is no food art in my eyes, unfortunately."
"Lots of deep-fried, lots of fried-to-death stuff like casserole dishes."
"If you can put it that way, they do not have the same taste composition as Thai food."
"Filipino food is more on the sour side."

The words did not sit well with the Philippine Embassy in Norway that it also issued an official statement about the matter.

Later, Romano issued a public apology. He said that he was sorry and that his words were taken out of context.
