Last week, the founder of Maginhawa community pantry, Ana Patricia Non, temporarily ceased operations for safety reasons.

She said that armed policemen came to her and asked for some personal details and information.

PNP Chief Debold Sinas and DILG Secretary Eduardo Año denied giving orders to PNP personnel to perform such acts.

Later on, however, Gen. Antonio Parlade of the NTF-ELCAC, admitted that they are indeed profiling the organizers of community pantries for supposed links to communist organizations.

He also compared Ana Patricia to the devil whom he said acted alone yet created a huge damage.

For Idol Raffy, these government officials should back off and allow pantries to operate peacefully as they are a huge help to the community that is in dire need of food.

The Maginhawa community pantry is a brainchild of Ana Patricia Non, an owner of a small furniture refurbishing business that employ people severely affected by the pandemic. Non said that she set up the pantry with the intention to help those who cannot provide food for their family. The concept behind the initiative is “magbigay ayon sa kakayahan, kumuha batay sa pangangailangan,” or for everyone to give based on their capacity and take only what they need. The idea caught on and spread like wildfire and soon, community pantries suddenly sprouted up in different parts of the country.

Soon, the posts became viral and not long after, similar community pantries sprouted in several other places all over Luzon. Many said that the community pantry is a big help, particularly that MECQ is still in effect over the NCR Plus bubble area.

Recently, however, Non decided to halt the operation of the original community pantry in Quezon City after government forces and supporters red-tagged her. She appealed to the Office of Mayor Joy Belmonte last week for help after three police officers asked for her contact number and asked which organization she belonged. This created fear and now, she had to stop what she's doing due to red tagging. She said that the accusations were all baseless and that all she wanted to do was to help others.
