‘TikTok,’ an app popular in the Philippines, gets banned in India

- The government of India has decided to ban a total of 59 Chinese mobile applications

- One of those apps that has been recently banned in the said country is “TikTok”

- The Ministry of Information Technology said that it received reports about alleged issues involving user’s privacy

- The said ban was also fueled by what happened with 20 Indian troops who fought against their Chinese counterparts

India recently revealed that it is disallowing its people to use “TikTok” and other Chinese mobile applications for “security” reasons.

KAMI learned that the ban was fueled by the death of 20 Indian troops who fought against Chinese armed forces over a contested territory.

It was also made after the Ministry of Information Technology received reports about an alleged breach of user’s private data.

In a report by Rappler, the ministry mentioned that the said application, along with 58 others, are engaged in activities that are “prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India.”

“The government of India has decided to disallow the usage of certain apps...” the ministry quipped.

“This decision is a targeted move to ensure safety and sovereignty of Indian cyberspace,” it added.

Aside from “TikTok,” The Indian Express reported that applications such as WeChat, SHAREit, Clash of Kings, and Weibo are also banned in the said nation.

“TikTok” is considered as one of the most popular and entertaining mobile applications in the world.

An old woman also made the rounds online because of her “TikTok” videos that, according to some netizens, are more entertaining that the videos of young people.
