Differences between ECQ, MECQ, and GCQ explained

After May 15, areas in Luzon will move on from being under an enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) to being either under a modified community quarantine or a general community quarantine.

Residents of these areas will be experiencing both minor and major changes in their daily routine due to this transition.

For the ECQ and MECQ, 100 percent of the population must stay at home at all times except for essential workers. For the GCQ, senior citizens and children must stay at home since they are the ones most vulnerable to the disease.

ECQ does not allow exercise in public while MECQ allows outdoor exercise with safety protocols. GCQ allows outdoor exercise as well as non-contact sports such as tennis and golf.

As for public gatherings, they are totally banned during ECQ, a gathering of 5 people is allowed in MECQ, and a gathering of 10 people is allowed in GCQ.

All public transport is disallowed in ECQ while some forms of public transport will be allowed in MECQ and GCQ.

The Manila Bulletin posted on Facebook a table that shows the main differences between the three types of quarantines:

Here is the list of the approved classification of COVID-19 risk levels:

Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (High-risk areas)

• Metro Manila

• Laguna

• Cebu City

General Community Quarantine (Moderate-risk areas)

• Region II - Cagayan Valley

• Region III - Central Luzon

• Region IV-A (except Laguna) -CALABARZON

• CAR

• Region VII (except Cebu City) - Central Visayas

• Region IX -Zamboanga Peninsula

• Region XI - Davao Region

• Region XIII - Caraga Region
