PH makes history! James Deiparine wins first gold in PHL swimming after 10 years

The Philippines just made another history! Athlete James Deiparine has saved the Philippine swimming after its 10-year drought at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

KAMI learned that Deiparine aced the swimming event and clocked 1:01.46.

In a report by the Inquirer (authored by Celest Flores-Colina), Deiparine also set a new SEA Games record, beating the 1:01.60 time of Nguyen Huu of Vietnam in 2009.

The athlete topped the men’s 100-meter breaststroke finals and defeated Vietnam’s Thanh Bao Pham with a record of 1:01.92, while Chien Yin Lionel Khoo finished with 1:01.98.

Born on January 4, 1993, James Deiparine is a well-known Filipino swimmer who also competed in the men's 50m breaststroke event at the 2017 World Aquatics Championships.

Meanwhile, CNN Philippines reported that Remedy Rule won a silver medal in women’s 200m butterfly category.

Another Pinay athlete also brought pride to the country. Jasmine Alkhaldi won the bronze medal in women’s 100m freestyle aquatics swimming.

In a previous report by KAMI, the Philippines had a strong start during the second day of the SEA Games 2019 and won 28 gold medals in just 10 events.

The 2019 Southeast Asian Games or the 30th Southeast Asian Games is a biennial regional multi-sport event which is being held in the Philippines from November 30 to December 11, 2019.
