Newly-appointed PAL Holdings, Inc. President Lucio "Bong" Tan Jr. has passed away at the age of 53 on Monday.
KAMI learned that before his passing, Tan was hospitalized after collapsing in the middle of a basketball game.
In a report by the Inquirer (author Miguel R. Camus), his sister Vivienne K. Tan has confirmed the passing of the newly-appointed PAL Holdings president.
“It is with deep sorrow that I announce the passing of my brother, Lucio ‘Bong’ Tan, Jr. this morning, November 11, 2019,” she said in a statement.
"His untimely passing leaves a big void in our hearts and our Group's management team which would be very hard to fill," she added.
On October 28, Tan was appointed as the president and chief operating officer of PAL Holdings which owns Philippine Airlines.
Last Saturday, he was brought to the hospital after collapsing unconscious while playing for the basketball team of Philippine Airlines. He was later on declared to be in a stable condition.
Tan was known for his love for basketball. He used to be the coach of the University of the East Red Warriors in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines.
He is the namesake of tycoon Lucio Tan Sr., one of the richest men in the Philippines according to Forbes Magazine with a net worth of $3.4 billion.
