President Rodrigo Duterte visited the wake of former Senate President Nene Pimentel at Heritage Park in Taguig City immediately after getting back from his Japan trip around 11 p.m. on Tuesday night, October 22.
The president cut his Japan trip short due to the ‘unbearable’ back pain he’s enduring which is an after-result of his motorbike accident.
Despite having troubles with it and seen walking with a cane, the grieving family appreciated the president’s sacrifice to make time to visit Nene Pimentel who died of cancer last Sunday, October 20.
“Kasi medyo sakripisyo itong ginawa ng presidente na umuwi galing si Japan dahil may nararamdamang sakit sa katawan pero dumaan pa rin po rito,” as described by Senator Koko Pimentel in an interview with ABS-CBN news.
With regard to the president’s condition, the senator elaborated that he looks fine in general for a 74-year-old. He just seemed tired from the flight coming from Japan.
The Philippine president was accompanied by Senator Bong Go when their flight landed in Villamor Airbase around 10:30 PM of the same night. After this, the two proceeded to the wake.
The president considers the late Nene Pimentel a ‘personal friend’ who contributed valuable service to the country as a public servant aside from being his party mate in PDP-Laban.
KAMI previously reported that President Duterte cuts Japan trip short due to injury from a motorbike accident.
Rodrigo Duterte is the 16th and current president of the Republic of the Philippines.
